The world of technology has added a whole new dimension of successes and challenges for our youth. Some have said it is too much and have attempted to ban students from using social media sites and other aspects of tech. The reality is that technology is here to stay and the majority of our youth use tech, especially spocial media, as part of their daily lives. Sites like Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, and Twitter are now part of the language and just part of “what we do” for the majority of youth. Banning the use will not teach the required skills to live in this reality.
With this in mind, how do we navigate this world together with our youth so that we are there to teach, model, and support its effective use? What are the challenges that we are facing? What are the opportunities for success and progress? What do we need to be aware of? How can we help our youth to treat others respectfully online and create their own positive digital footprint?
These topics will be explored on Monday, January 14th at 6:30pm Kent Elementary School. The evening will begin with a 20-30 minute presentation by principal Chris Wejr and then will move to a parent forum with guiding questions along with thoughts and questions initiated by the participants.
The Kent PAC invites you to come discuss and explore this world so we can work together to better navigate with our youth. Refreshments, snacks and childcare will be provided by Kent PAC.
