Kindies Use Skype to Play With School in Abby

Kindies meeting their new friends for the first time.

Remember having pen pals when you were a kid?  Ms. Garroch’s class is connecting with classes from around North America using a program that kindergarten teachers have created called Skype Play.

The teachers have all met through social media (ie. Twitter) and have collaborated on a project to try to get their kids playing and learning from each other using technology.

Wednesday was the first time and I would say it was a huge success as the classes met, asked some great questions, and then Skype was used as a small centre in which the kids shared their lego creations with each other.

The plan is to have the students join with their skype play friends a couple times per week.

The best question was asked by a student in Abbotsford, “When do we get to play with them in real life?”.  The classes are planning a picnic together in the spring.
